Kraken Tyranids Wave Two - Done!

Hello!

Wave two of the (mostly contrast) Kraken Tyranid project is done! Ta da!

Flying Hive Tyrant, Exocrine, Gargoyles, Genestealers and some cheeky Ripper Swarms! All painted with the same method as before, except the two big monsters, who got a bit of extra effort with another layer of bone highlight over the skin.

There we go, that's two waves of Nids done, and sent off to a (hopefully) happy customer. I'm really pleased with the result based on a fairly quick and efficient scheme. Contrast paints are proving to be a valuable tool for me, and with a little bit of extra effort they can really pop. Hope you all like them, and stay safe out there.

Death Guard - Hobbypocalypse Month Three

Back with more Death Guard! Once again, I've been painting about 250 points (ish) a month of 'dry' Death Guard to 'play along' with the DZTV Four Horsemen of the Hobbypocalypse. Month one covered some troops, while month two expanded on that and added some characters. This month I decided I needed a leader, and that I needed to see what the scheme looked like scaled up...

So here's what I've done, a Lord of Contagion, a Plague Burst Crawler, and two very cheeky Nurglings! Let's look at the Warlord first:

Of course, the 'sassy' Nurgling is the real star of the show, so I had to put him on the Lord's base (in front of some of his squished brothers). The Lord's scheme was looking a bit... basic, with just the sponging and rust powder, so I put some extra Flesh Tearers Red on his axe as a big of gore, and got the Hexwraith Flame out for his noxious fumes.

Next up, the PBC:

I had a lot of fun doing the weathering on this tank, as well as piling up the sand on the dozer blade and on the tracks. However I knew with limited gross nurgly bits, it wanted a little something extra to stand out, so que the exceptionally brave purple Nurgling in the barrel. I think he's just the disgusting cherry on top the crawler needed.

So that's what I've been up to this month of the Hobbypocalypse, and here's my stamped card to prove it:

All in all, the project is going along well. I'm not entirely sure what to do next month, but I think it'll be a big blob of Blightlord Terminators! Until then, here's the full force for now, just about still fitting in the light box! Hope you like them, and stay safe!

Narrative Wargamer Podcast - Warzone Charadon - Act One: The Book of Rust

Another Narrative Wargamer Podcast with me on it! This time it's about the recent 40k supplement, Warzone Charadon - Act One: The Book of Rust. It's a very 'crunchy' episode with a lot of rules talk - but not so much all the matched play rules that you'll undoubtedly have heard all about all over the internet already, but mostly focusing on the campaign and Crusade rules that somewhat flew under the radar. 

I'm still not sure if I'll buy the book myself, it does seem a lot of fun to play some of the special missions and or put together a Mechanicus defence cohort, but I'm not sure how much use I'd get out of it. I hope GW does make more of this kind of book though, a supplement that's truly optional, not essential.

Legio Mortis Warhounds DONE!

As a bit of an impulse purchase I recently grabbed a couple of extra Warhound Titans for Adeptus Titanicus off eBay. In 40k they may be mighty behemoths, but in Titanicus they are annoying little imps that dance around the bigger engines and annoy them to death, and I love them. They've served me well before, but two is hardly a proper pack is it?

So, once again I magnetised the weapon options and went for a mostly black scheme, with weathering and slightly subdued gold trim. I changed it up a bit though by adding some more battle damage, including some big dangling cables from broken sections and a hole in one of the big exhaust grills. I wanted to play up the slow corruption and decay of these war engines, as the Legio Mortis would eventually fall to Nurgle after all. In addition for a bit of variety and Nurgliness I gave them green eyes instead of the red glow of the old pair. Anyway, here they are:

And as mentioned, now I have four of them! So I took the opportunity to photograph the whole pack, with some attendant Knights. Sadly I couldn't fit any of the bigger ones in the lightbox at the same time (I've do another full army shot one day!) Now I just need to be able to play games so they can run down some loyalist prey!

Narrative Wargamer Podcast - Flashpoint Charadon

Hello!

After a bit of a break, I've been on another Narrative Wargamer Podcast, this time about another White Dwarf series - Flashpoint Charadon. This seems to be a cool little series with a bunch of different sets of Theatre of War rules each with a series of battlefield rules and some Crusade content for if you win games in them. Narratively they take place in the Charadon Sector, representing worlds and areas not covered in the main GW supplements, but there's no reason you can't use them to spice up pretty much any game.

Using a picture here of SorcererDave's Sisters because as I mention in the community spotlight section, he has been using some of these Theatres of War in his recent 'solohammer' battle reports. While they aren't as much fun as having a real opponent there for the banter it's still good to stick on for a few hours of painting.

As usual, this post is pretty much just a 'I did a thing' post for completeness, so I've not got much more to say, other than I hope you enjoy listening to the podcast and stay safe.
